Florence Menswear Show – Pitti Uomo

Pitti Uomo is the menswear show in terms of trends, it’s certainly the place to go, look, be inspired. Having said that it’s not just a PR excercise….buyers attend in abundance and they do buy and plan for the coming season.

This January was no exception, journalists, PR’s, buyers and sellers attended in their hundreds. Key trends in tailoring saw a shorter tailored trouser (showing a little ankle) with slim fitting jackets. Fur was on show, and a lot of it! As usual for the Florence show colour was in abundance but it was the detailing which prevailed.

Bags and leather accessories were bright as on the Fedon stand (Think super bright briefcases, phone cases and wallets).

The Boss window display saw red and blue matching accessories (See pic) which explains the continuation of this theme.

Beards were worn longer and, hats were everywhere, only in Florence do you see a high-end three-piece suit, complete with cufflinks, tie and hank, topped off with an oversised beanie…..oh and Raybans (even though it’s not sunny!)

So if you were wearing a beard, hat, Raybans and short trousers (no socks), with sleeve tattoo’s then you were really on trend!

More than just a show Pitti Uomo (now in its 85th year) is a spectacle. It’s now become customary for photographers to group at the entrance of the Fortezza del Basso, waiting to catch the first glimpse of the styles of the day. In the afternoon there is always a gathering of men in the main plazzo, smoking, perhaps talking business, perhaps quietly waiting politely to be papped!

Whichever it is Pitti Uomo is a show to behold and you wont see this kind of resplendent male gathering of sweet sartorial style anywhere else on earth.

Until next time Florenzi, arrivederci,
