Broken Ground

January is coming to an end we have had storms a plenty but the good news for the grower is that the days have more light.

The Hens have noticed.โ€‚They stop laying in the Winter months but when the increased daylight returns they begin again to lay.โ€‚Scrambled eggs for lunch today did not disappoint and extra butter because its January and we need it.

We have been working on the ground at Periwinkle, the quadrangle between the barns is grassed but we discovered it was the original farm yard so I wondered if we could build a courtyard with gravel paths and large beds for growing Summer stock.

I’ve hand drawn plans and broken ground.โ€‚Its early days yet, however in my head I’ve planned every inch of land and I’ve obviously trawled the seed and plant catalogs to find the best plants to grow for this years Summer Weddings.

In other news the first snow drop has arrived, slowly emerging from the ground, a glimmer of the joy to come from what lies beneath.

I’m speaking at an event for Flowers From the Farm this month on Marketing for Flower Farmers, its on Saturday 3rd February in Thirsk, tickets are ยฃ25.โ€‚Oh and before I forget we will have flowers for Valentines Day, British Tulips and Lilies from Linconshire and the most fragrant British Eucalyptus.โ€‚More details in the Store page of the website. https://periwinklebarn.com/product/valentines-bouquet-freya/

That’s all for now, Much Love
