Back in the Summer, I was asked to attend a shop opening. No ordinary shop this was a brand new British Red Cross Charity Shop on Portobello Road, West London.
I arrived at 164 Portobello Road ready for a rummage through the usual charity shop donations, perhaps I would get a bargain? Or designer find, maybe even vintage treasure?
To my delight, the shop was packed to the rafters with a mix of premium designer and vintage items, pieces from Alexander McQueen, Chanel and Marc Jacobs.
This particular Red Cross shop specialises in vintage and designer clothes, rather befitting to the location in the vintage collectors paradise that is Portobello Road.
Rubbing shoulders with other bloggers, press, and the Honorable Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Mrs. Elizabeth Rutherford. Everyone was keen to spot a little something special. The champagne poured and the cash register roared! Taking a whopping, £1000 in just three hours.
The British Red Cross have over 340 retail outlets around the UK, including a number of specialist shops including vintage clothing, books, designer, bridal, furniture and electrical equipment, all working to raise money for people in crisis both in the UK and overseas.
I for one loved the new shop, it’s a fashionista’s dream with vintage finds and preloved designer labels as well as new high street corporate donations. I bought myself a rather lovely pair of shoes. I’m not telling which ones or what I paid. That’s the joy of Charity Shop Shopping. I’ll be back soon Portobello!
