May the Month of Growth

I love the month of May. The sun grows warm and the land grows green. Cow Parsley bounces up from the country hedgerows and English gardens begin to bloom.

The first peonies emerge. Tight buds at first growing bigger by the day until they unfold like a crumpled pink handkerchief. Sarah Bernheardt is the most perfect powder pink. No other pink in the garden is quite this cool.

English growers begin to sell their bounty. Purple and white stocks, red peonies to join the pinks, blue delphinium and antique dianthus which is somewhere between green and blush I buy them all. I make the English Garden Bouquet and the Summer of English flowers is ahead of us.

June begins with even more warmth and colour.
